Daniel Basurto Vargas, 35, is facing a host of charges after being stopped by members of the Leesburg Police Department on patrol late on July 30 near a busy intersection.
According to a spokesperson from the department, shortly before 11 p.m. on Tuesday night, the officer spotted Vargas heading westbound on East Market Street near Battlefield Parkway traveling 100 mph in a 55 mph zone, prompting a traffic stop.
During the subsequent stop, it was determined that Vargas was impaired and he had an open bottle of alcohol inside his vehicle. He also refused all sobriety tests, leading to his arrest.
The Leesburg resident was charged with:
- Driving while intoxicated (second offense);
- Driving after revocation of a license;
- Reckless driving by speed;
- Refusal of tests;
- Obstruction of justice;
- Having an open container.
Vargas was taken to the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center, where he was being held pending a bond hearing.
